ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Hi, I’m Shade (Sha-DAY), the founder and creator of Olive Roe, a body, bath, and body candle brand, established in 2018. I’m a scent-obsessed, skin-loving small-batch maker!

I started Olive Roe because I couldn’t find feel-good products that were as fun as they were natural. Now I spend my days blending butters, pouring candles, and playing with colours, all to bring a little joy to your bathroom shelf.

In 2011, my interest in hair and skincare had peaked, so I used my background in science to delve deeper, developing a greater understanding of cosmetic ingredients and formulations. I soon discovered that the majority of popular brands fill their products with inexpensive filler ingredients, adding no benefit to skin health. My frustration only grew when I found that many “high-end” and “luxury” brands tend to do the same, while still charging premium prices.

As a crafty, hands-on person passionate about cosmetic science, the only logical step forward was to make my own products from scratch. It all began experimenting in my parents’ kitchen with a pan of shea butter, some coconut oil, and a dreamy playlist. I worked towards formulating simple products, using natural, organic, and plant-based ingredients, without compromising effectiveness.

What started as DIY projects for personal use and gifts for my friends and family turned into a passion for skincare that’s playful, gentle, and full of personality. Before long, I was creating high-performance products, and I knew I was onto something special.

I wanted to make something bright and joyful for girls and women like me, something that feels like a treat, but is full of real goodness. And Olive Roe was born.
